DAMAGE OF AUTUMN ARMYWORM TO TOMATOES AND CONTROL MEASURES.

Abstract

Several types of pests damage tomatoes during the growing season. Among them, autumn armyworm (Agrotis segetum) larvae cause significant damage to the root part of the plant during the seedling stage, leading to wilting and death of young plants. This article provides information on studying the damage caused by autumn armyworm to tomato crops, its morphological characteristics, and distribution patterns. Research methods included diagonal sampling of cultivated areas and determining the number of pests using M.S. Gilyarov's formula. The results of the experiments revealed high efficacy of chemical preparations such as EMAMATCH s.d.g. (emamectin benzoate 50 g/kg) and DEXED RINE em.k. (deltamethrin 25 g/l) in controlling autumn armyworm. Specifically, EMAMATCH achieved 85.0% biological effectiveness when applied at 0.4 kg/ha, and DEXED RINE achieved 82.0% biological effectiveness when applied at 0.7 l/ha. The application of these preparations is recommended against armyworm larvae, which is crucial for protecting tomato yields.
