Abstract
The crystal structure of [Co(phen)3](NO3)2⋅2H2O was analyzed with emphasis on the Co(II) coordination geometry. The Co(II) center is coordinated by three bidentate 1,10-phenanthroline ligands, forming a distorted octahedral CoN6 environment. Co-N distances range from 2.073(4) to 2.097(4) Å, with an average of 2.0830 Å. The low bond-length distortion index (0.00301) and
quadratic elongation (1.0121) indicate minor bond-length distortion, while the bond-angle variance (42.9745o2) points to more pronounced angular distortion. Thus, the CoN6 unit is predominantly distorted through bond angles.
