Abstract

This article examines the influence of historical context on the literary style of Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, highlighting how the French Revolution shapes the narrative's themes, characters, and stylistic elements. It discusses Dickens’ vivid portrayal of the era’s contradictions, the novel’s moral undertones as a cautionary tale for Victorian readers, and the universal relevance of its themes. By blending historical detail with timeless moral questions, Dickens uses the French Revolution not only as a dramatic setting but also as a lens to explore societal concerns and human resilience. The article underscores how Dickens’ literary style reflects both the historical backdrop of the 18th century and the social anxieties of 19th-century England, demonstrating the interplay between history and literature.
