Abstract

This article explores the diversity of English varieties and accents, highlighting the differences in pronunciation, vocabulary, and rhythm across regions such as the UK, the US, Australia, India, and Africa. It discusses the challenges of understanding various English accents and emphasizes the importance of exposure to them in today’s globalized world for effective communication and cultural appreciation. The article also offers practical tips for improving listening skills, such as using authentic resources, engaging in conversations, shadowing, and utilizing tools like the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to familiarize oneself with different accents.
