Description

Vocabulary knowledge plays a critical role in listening comprehension, serving as the foundation for understanding spoken language. This article examines the relationship between vocabulary knowledge and listening comprehension, highlighting key aspects such as receptive and productive vocabulary, the interplay between vocabulary and context, and the importance of both vocabulary breadth and depth. It also explores common challenges faced by learners, such as speech speed, pronunciation variations, and unfamiliar words. To address these challenges, strategies like promoting contextual learning, integrating listening and reading, and practicing inferencing skills are recommended. By emphasizing vocabulary development, learners can significantly enhance their listening comprehension abilities, improving their overall language proficiency.
